The A.I.P. (Inter-Establishment Production Engineering Workshops), regional resource centres created in 1984 and used as an experimental support for high-level training in the Industrial Automation field. PRIMECA (Computing Resouce Centres for Mechanical Engineering), created in 1991 to promote the use of computing tools in the design of mechanical products and establish training programmes in Computer-Aided Mechanical Design.
Founded in 1990, SPIM is one of the four Phd schools of the University of Franche-Comté (UFC), gathering more than 450 Phd students and delivering an average of 110 degrees per year. It brings together some 212 active HDR from 4 institutions: the Franche-Comté University (UFC), The University of Burgundy (UB), the University of Technology Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM), and the National School of Mechanics and Microtechnologies of Besançon (ENSMM).
